About Jenn Jackson

"My fascination and passion for bodywork is so multifaceted. It all started for me when I became quite certain that Cranialsacral Therapy is what made it so that a brain tumor I was battling no longer ravaged my body. This changed me and my view of the world (figuratively and literally, as it is right between my eyes and it was beginning to narrow my vision) so drastically it is actually the reason I quit my career and headed back to school to learn bodywork.
Along the way I had a mentor who taught me Structural Integration. This brilliant modality changed my life; I have one leg that endured some trauma when I was young, and thus it was dramatically shorter than the other. This uneven platform resulted in a tilted pelvis and scoliosis as my brain tried to bring me straight again. A lifetime of uneven distribution in my legs had begun to take it's toll up my entire body… pain was a daily constant.
From intensely debilitating migraines, to knee/hip/sacral pain, and a diminished control of my bladder from pinched nerves in my spine and the resulting humiliation… I was a wreck when I found bodywork. I didn't even trust my legs to hold me standing for long periods.
Now, what can I say? I have felt its power through my entire body. In fact, I don't even have the same body, or brain, anymore. That person who I was for so long feels like another lifetime ago, and I never thought I could be here, standing taller and in better alignment and flow each day. Healthier, lighter and pain free, I might add. It has been quite a powerful journey, and along the way I have been able to take what I am learning to help myself, and continue to use it in the assistance of others in their own journey. I find an immense amount of gratitude and joy in that. There is no question in my mind, our paths have purpose and a large part of mine is to help others find their way out of pain, trauma and dysfunction". -Jenn
My Treatment PhilosophyI view your body as a story outlining your existence… an interwoven history of symptoms, activities, belief systems, patterns, traumas and compensations. You have followed a very particular trail that has led you to this point of pain, and there are many paths leading out from where you now stand. Bodywork is one of the oldest and most well traveled routes. In fact, cultures from around the world have been utilizing it since 3,000 BC, and it continues to evolve today as we learn more about "how" we are.
My approach to bodywork will help you evaluate and unravel the stories of "how" your body is and "who" that makes you. This has a huge contribution to repairing the health, function and movement of areas that have become injured, impinged, misaligned and "stuck" along your journey. At the same time, as the health of your connective tissues, joints, muscles, and nervous system are revitalized, a new awareness of your body (it's parts and its whole) and your movement patterns will be born. From this, you can tune into where you are now moving from and how you are holding yourself. These are fundamental in retraining and forming new movement patterns and neural pathways, as well as building and sustaining healthy tissues. This process takes the commitment to form a new partnership with both your body and with me. It can also take time. After all, this journey has most likely taken you awhile to get to this point, and it may take a little bit to get back on a lighter, and more clear, path. I encourage each person who is interested to book a consultation so that we can meet and discuss what is going on. From there, I will have a better idea if, and how, I can help. You'll also get a better sense if this therapy and I are a good fit for you. |

My Bodywork Theory

I enjoy learning from other cultures... historical cultures of the past, as well as modern day cultures around the world. Whether we are looking at the healing treatments of the Eastern philosophies or of Western science, there are a number of synchronicities that seem to tie the two together, and I am particularly taken with fascia. It has become evident that its role is not only in the lubrication, connection and binding of our anatomical structures, but as the most innervated substance in our bodies it has been called "the base root of our consciousness" (with 10 times the sensory nerve endings than muscles, it depicts what we feel internally as well as externally from our environment). In addition, it has recently been discovered that fascia is the medium through which acupressure and acupuncture affect not only our physiological and mental being, but potentially our energetic one as well.
In regards to the human body, I feel like Western science has been about breaking things down, smaller and smaller, until we understand even the tiniest of life, atoms. It separates muscle from fascia, breaking the body down until we are allowed to understand how a single cell works. Meanwhile, Eastern philosophy has been building things up, until we've become not just a body and a mind, but an energetic being as well. Building even greater to form the connection between beings, as well as between beings and the Universe we all inhabit. In looking at both of these, I believe they are connected, and together form a "whole". Thus, by simply working within the fascial realm of the physiological structure, we can affect both, creating a very unique and powerful experience.
There is no doubt that the world inside of us is connected to the universe around us… through us. A primary connecting entity is fascia, and so when we bring our bodies into alignment with the energetic forces of our universe (like gravity) or we increase the health of this incredible connective tissue, I believe we can have a profound impact on our whole being.
